Striding on! workshop - Sarah Lacey-Fisher |

Comments from Sarah after a Striding on! workshop in Chrishchurch.
Thanks so much Ali and Bevan...it was so beneficial and didn't the time go so quickly!!???
There were moments during the morning that I felt like a clydsdale, big and clumsy! Eventually progressing to a trekking pony...steady as she goes, one continuous pace!
A show jumper, up, over and sometimes through the hurdles!A trotter, complete with harness off my back! A bit of dressage to show off the necessary good posture, but by the end, I was beginning to feel what its like to be a race horse!!
Now I am wondering if race horses feel as sore as I do right now??!!
It has been worth all the discomfort though!
Thank you for proving to this old nag that you can teach an old horse new tricks!!
Wishing you all the best in your next event.
Regards
Sarah Lacey-Fisher

Terry Love - Striding on! Workshop |
|
|
|
Now I'm not saying that it was all the course...but the empirical
evidence is:
Before Course: 5km time = 21:47
After Course: 5km time =19:17
The best things personally from the course were:
- ability to focus when under pressure
- warding off negative thinking when it started to hurt by thinking of
the 3 Rs - especially relaxation
- also warding of the pain and maintaining focus by thinking of the
Toe Lift, and driving back
with the arm. (I've always "punched" forward!)
Definitely helped!
Cheers,
Terry

Sports Medicine Practitioner/Coach
- Winner of multiple World Triathlon titles and coach of numerous World Champion athletes including Erin Baker.
Ali Dennis has succeeded in producing a simple and
clear instruction video with accompanying manual and cue cards for
runners of all levels. He describes the essentials of running technique
in clear terms. Basic running drills are presented with progression
from simple movements to the more complicated and faster movements
involved with the running gait. The actions learnt with the drills are
subsequently applied in accelerated running to bring everything
together.
Ali also emphasises the importance of hill running
and hill bounding exercises the value of which was recognised first by
running coach legend Arthur Lydiard.
I enjoyed watching the video and reading
accompanying material. I learnt some new things and will try them
myself as well as pass them on to the athletes I coach.
I highly recommend the video and accompanying manual
and cue cards for all runners, from beginners to elite, who want to
improve their running style.
Well done, Ali!

Owner of Perfect Shape Fitness Studio
Alastair is a respected professional fitness consultant and coach based in Tawa.
Thank you for giving me the
opportunity to view your video "Striding On". Congratulations on an
excellent piece of work that many athletes and coaches alike will
appreciate.
If I had known about this sort
of information 20 years ago, I would more than likely been a much
better athlete I'm sure. As a 4.02 miler and a representative runner, I
am convinced that had I done a little more speed-work and balanced the
amount of mileage I was running I would have had much better results
with my running.
The speed drills shown on the
video are first class, and importantly, they are also quite easy to
follow and understand. As a coach of some up-and-coming athletes, I
will certainly be including all of the material on the video, as part
of their training over the future months.
I look forward to seeing more of
your work in the future, and seeing improvements in my own athlete's
running and triathlon performance.
Thanks once again.

Sports Physician and previous NZ Triathlon Representative.
I think you've done a great job. Very easy to follow and nicely presented.
I for one will definitely be watching it for a 2nd... 3rd ... time to get
the most out of it. Maybe there is still another sub 40min 10km in these
old legs of mine that have just been waiting for "Striding On"!
cheers Ruth.

Physical Education Teacher.
As a physical education teacher and a participant in endurance sport I have had
the opportunity to view ‘Striding ON” as both a teaching resource and for personal use. The video is very
clear and concise and using excellent demonstrations and graphics that help to illustrate for a teaching
tool the correct techniques.
Instructions of how to apply drills and correct techniques are shown clearly
through using an easy to understand booklet and cue cards. The nature of the programme indicates how easy
it is to work on running style and technique without needing fancy tracks and facilities.
I can see the potential to use ‘Striding On’ during senior PE classes. It can be used to assist the
students whilst they develop their own personal exercise programme. It outlines each session for them but
also gives them the opportunity to work at their own level. It also has the potential for school coaches in
cross country, athletics and multi sport to assist the development of their students in their chosen field.
"Striding On" is a well written easy to follow video. It enables the individual or group to view
week-by-week sessions, whilst recapping on drills and reinforcing technique as they progress through.

Sports and Manipulative Physiotherapist.
As a physiotherapist I found the video "Striding On!" a very valuable
resource to show runners the importance of correct technique. The video
demonstrates correct posture, biomechanics, movement patterns and skill
training into a progressive programme which was comprehensive and easy to
follow. Correct technique is essential in the management of sporting
injuries, aiming to minimise recurrence and return them to sport as quickly
as possible.
